Downloading
Well I just canceled my preorder. I can't get anything to download over 10k/sec which is simply unacceptable in the year 2007. If by now they can't figure out how to handle traffic then these guys have no business making games, but all I know is I am not spending an hour trying to get into a town like like LA which ive been to countless times. I don't know how many high profile games ive played that didnt have this problem.
I have not played guild wars in at least 6 months, and my welcome back for finally finding the will to fire it up again is 10k download speeds. Lol is all I have to say to that. I've been trying to get into Lions Arch for 45 minutes. It's at 37% currently. At this rate it will take me 3 hours to enter a single town.
Just to test my connection, I connected to Call of Duty 2 which has far more intense graphics than this, connected almost instantly. It's something with the game.
See ya ANET. This game sucks. I'm pretty sure they don't have these problems with WoW. I'd much rather pay a monthly fee to get a game that works than spend $40 on a some pieve of junk.

Ever think that your ISP might be garbage?
If/when I download, I'm over 200kb/s.

Im getting 200kb/s...well around that
Also games with "intense graphics" does not equal net connection. Call of duty is not an online heavy game and not getting hit by thousands of people at the same time. For the preview (and instead of forcing everyone to dl the whole entire game to their hard drives before) they make u dl each section as u come to it. When the game comes out on the 31st, u will install it do there will be hardly no dl wait at all...
Also if ur getting 10kb a sec....are u on dialup or just got a really really crappy isp?

Trust me, it's not. I play a lot of games online, and earlier played Madden 08 on the 360 online without any lag. There's something up with the game. After waiting 1.5 hours to get into Lion's Arch, I took the quest for EotN. I am now trying to download 900 files at 8k/sec.
I emailed ANEt tech support about getting a refund. I only paid $5 through the online store for the preorder, but I refuse to deal with this. I'll see what they say.

Again check your connection. From what everyone has been saying there hasnt been any problems at all, just u for the most part. Also again to note, games like madden 08 and call of duty are not getting hit by thousands of people (in the same server sense on the same game). Maybe contact ur isp or check ur hardware for faults because its not the game.

Madden 08 isnt getting hit by thousands of people? I would say it's getting hit quite a bit worse than Guild Wars. That game sold millions before it was even out and their servers are surely taking a serious pounding.

Once again, I was also downloading around 200-300kb/s.
If you're having problems downloading, it's not on Anets side.

Guess what? Most of us know what we are talking about. Myself included (MCSE, lulz). I can promise you it isn't a Guild Wars problem. Unless you are on Dial Up, you need to contact your ISP or check your connectivity. Try checking your NIC as well, as that could be flaking out on you. Also, FIREWALLS. Check them.

ok take it easy. Traffic might be in a rush hour for your area right now that's why you got such a low speed. If you have time I suggest you do the -image and let it download everything in one go, may take anywhere from 20mins - an hour, maybe longer depend on your internet connection. The total size for the sneak peak data is 600+mb and have around 40k+ files.

Earlier today, I was getting an average speed of 55-60kbs. That's pretty average for my connection, though I did have times where it slowed down to under 20kbs. In the past, when I've had really slow speeds downloading, I've had good results with shutting off the game, then starting it back up. You might give that a shot.
